Salmonellosis is a symptomatic infection caused by bacteria of the Salmonella type. The most common symptoms are diarrhea, fever, abdominal cramps, and vomiting. Symptoms typically occur between 12 hours and 36 hours after exposure, and last from two to seven days. Salmonella infections (also often referred to, generally, as food poisoning) are quite common. Most people get over it without treatment, but some cases are so severe people need to go to the hospital. In rare cases it’s life-threatening.
